Quality cast acrylic transmits about 92 percent of light, slightly more than standard float glass, and it never shows the greenish tint you see on thick glass edges. Diamond-polished acrylic edges look like crystal, which is why premium retail displays and awards are almost always acrylic.
Acrylic weighs roughly half as much as glass of the same size. That changes everything on site: larger panels can be handled by one person, wall fixings can be lighter, and shipping across the emirates costs less. For suspended or wall-mounted pieces, acrylic is the safer engineering choice.
Glass shatters into dangerous shards. Acrylic is 10 to 20 times more impact resistant and cracks rather than explodes, which is why malls, schools, clinics and event venues across the UAE specify it. The trade-off: acrylic scratches more easily than glass, though light scratches polish out.
UAE sun is brutal. Quality cast acrylic is UV-stable and keeps its clarity outdoors for years, while cheap extruded sheet can yellow. Glass handles direct heat better near kitchens or hot lighting. For outdoor signage, acrylic wins on weather and weight.
Sheet for sheet, acrylic and glass are often similar in price, but acrylic cuts total project cost through cheaper fabrication, transport and installation. Fabrication is where acrylic pulls ahead: it can be laser cut, bent, bonded and printed in ways glass simply cannot.
Pick acrylic for displays, signage, partitions, awards and anything mounted, curved or branded. Pick glass for load-bearing architectural glazing, extreme heat zones and scratch-critical surfaces like table tops.
